A different angle on the Eastern Front: Red Recon: 1944 is a PC game I looked at during Steam Next Fest that puts you in the boots of Soviet Red Army reconnaissance scouts dropped behind enemy lines in East Prussia, 1944.
Behind the lines
You guide Captain Mironov and his squad through hostile territory, and the behind-the-lines recon framing is a nice change from the usual push-the-frontline wargame. Small-unit, stealth-leaning operations live or die on tension and good information, so that’s what I’m watching for here. First look at the demo; I give my read on whether the atmosphere and the systems back up the premise.
